What the hell?

Did you all hear about Bill Bennett? Write to the FCC. Demand that the public airwaves are not to be used for spreading this kind of abhorrent, disgusting viewpoint. And this man was the Secretary of Education? Evil has shown its face in the culture wars. Taken from Jake Tapper's article on abcnews.com:

After pondering on his radio program how aborting every black infant in America would affect crime rates, best-selling author and self-styled "Values Czar" Bill Bennett is vehemently denying he is a racist and defending his willingness to speak publicly about race and crime.

On the Wednesday edition of his radio show, "Bill Bennett's Morning in America," syndicated by Salem Radio Network, a caller raised the theory that Social Security is in danger of becoming insolvent because legalized abortion has reduced the number of tax-paying citizens. Bennett said economic arguments should never be employed in discussions of moral issues.
If it were your sole purpose to reduce crime, Bennett said, "You could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down.

"That would be an impossible, ridiculous and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down," he added.

I am absolutely disgusted - who the hell is he to call himself the "Values Czar"??? Although, the term "values" is really neutral, just like "quality". I guess we know that his values include racism and ignorance.

It kills me that he doesn't understand why people would have a problem with what he said. He now says (by way of explanation) that he was deliberately giving an example of an absurd argument- he stated that suggesting that all black babies be aborted would be ridiculous, reprehensible, and all that. (And he's right about that!) But then he goes on to say that, no matter how appalling and terrible the policy would be, IT WOULD WORK! It doesn't matter how awful the policy would be- he still believes the underlying stereotype.
