So there's this hilarious thing going on at work. I work in a place that has 30-some offices across the country, and we're all tied in to each other via the web/email network. Yesterday morning, some idiot forwarded on a fake virus warning and sent it to the big universal "All" in the address book. So 3,000+ people got this dumb email message. Someone replied pretty soon after saying "before sending out something like this, please check its accuracy" and included a link to Snopes saying that the virus warning was a hoax.
You'd think it would stop there. But no! For the last two days, we've now had about 15 reply-to-all responses. They all look the same -- people replying to the most recent author AND to the "All" list with "Please take me off your list. Stop sending me these. I have better things to do!" Hahaha! Do they even realize this is going to ALL employees? Finally someone this morning started a new thread to "All" saying please stop replying, this is a list that went to everyone, let it die. But, nope, people are still catching up and sending new responses. I'm actually a little surprised that our IT folks haven't put the smack down yet. We're hoping this keeps up all week, cuz it's pretty freakin' hilarious.
This is all good timing, actually, cuz I'm reading The Tipping Point right now. Somehow this all has to relate as an epidemic, spreading this virus.... not a computer virus, but a virus of idiocy!

This happened a bunch of times at my last company - same deal, 30,000 people working in 27 states and it took the CEO to say "if you people don't have any work to do, then you should start looking for other jobs." That cut it fast.
Ah, the IT smackdown finally came this afternoon. A big directive about improper use of office equipment, which includes the network. The notice smacked both the person who sent the original FWD and all of the people who replied to all (which includes 2 of my friends) saying they were all in violation of the policy, subject to reprimand, restriction of usage, or even prosecution. Yikes! It also said what I'd think would be obvious - that no one is allowed to use that "All" list without express permission. So the fun is over, I guess.
