Wow, the news media is going crazy with this new terror warning. It's almost as if they were just hungry for a new terror or security story. Sure, a Bin Laden tape is news and his warnings really aren't that different than what we proably all assumed deep down - that there are still people out there plotting to do something. It goes without saying that I hope they're unsuccessful - that the powers that be manage to thwart whatever plans are afoot.
But the news media's reaction is to stir themselves up into a frenzy again, just like back in 2001/02 and in the ramp up to the 2004 election. CNN has dispatched their reporters far and wide to send in their updates on security levels across the nation. So far, it seems that there's no change. They showed a clip of a Bloomberg news conference where the main message was "business as usual." So is the media creating a frenzy that just isn't out there with officials and the masses? Is this our reminder that 24-hour news agencies thrive on BREAKING NEWS and their beloved red bottom-of-the-screen scrolls?
